Kanpur is situated on the banks of the River Ganges the most important industrial centre in Uttar Pradesh. It lies on the banks of Ganga. It is famous for leather and textile goods of fine quality. It is now one of the major industrial cities with aviation, wool and leather industries, cotton, flour and vegetable oil mills, sugar refineries and chemical works. Formerly known as Manchester of the country, it is now also called the commercial capital of the state.It also has a strong association with the Indian independence movement. The city was quite insignificant until 1765 when the entire province was transferred to the British under a treaty signed by the Nawab of Awadh.

Shri Radhakrishna Temple


Shri Radhakrishna Temple is one of the prominent and unique blend of ancient and modern architecture. The central shrine of the temple is dedicated to the idols of Shri Radhakrishna while the others to Shri Laxminarayan, Shri Ardhanarishwar, Shri Narmadeshwar and Shri Hanuman.


The Kanpur Memorial Church

The Kanpur Memorial Church built in 1875, was designed by Walter Granville. This Gothic style building has fine stained glass windows and interesting memorials. There is a Memorial Garden on the eastern side.
The complete Church in Lombardic gothic style is handsomely executed in bright red brick, with polychrome dressings. The interior contains monuments to the mutiny, including several memorial tablets.In the separate enclosure to the east of the church is the Memorial Garden, approached through two gateways.

Jajmau

The mound of Jajmau, on the eastern end of the city occupies a high place among ancient sities of the region.The Jajmau is said to be of great historical significance, which is why it is among the principal tourist attractions in the city of Kanpur.Today Jajmau houses the temples of Siddhnath and Siddha Devi. It is because of these names that Jajmau was previously known as Siddhapuri.



Bithoor is situated on the Kannauj Road, 27 km from Kanpur. Situated on the banks of the Ganga, this tranquil spot is of considerable historical and religious importance. According to Hindu scriptures Lord Brahma came to Utpalaranya, as it was known then, for the creation of mankind. The place which first witnessed the creation of mankind came to be known as Brahmavarta or the seat of Brahma. The foot prints of the Havan horse can still be seen here. There is also a Valmiki Ashram here where Rishi Valmiki wrote the Ramayana. It is also said that Goddess Sita, wife of Lord Ram stayed here at the Valmiki Ashram after lord Ram drove her out of his house. The two sons of Lord Ram named as Luv and Kush were born here at this ashram.

The Jain Glass temple

The Jain Glass temple, one of the attractive tourist spots in Kanpur, is a temple dedicated to Jainism. Constructed in the traditional old style of architecture, this temple is completely built in glass, beautifully adorned and decorated with intricate designs in enamel and glass.The floors are done up in marble and the interior consists of ornamental arches. The temple displays lively murals made of stained glass and excellent wall paintings narrating the teachings of the Jain scriptures.

Panki Hanuman Temple
The ancient Panki Hanuman Temple, located on the border of Kanpur at Panki area
near Panki Railway Station. This small temple devoted to Lord Hanuman has a magnificent statute of the lord in a standing position facing east. The temple is having three entrance from the east, north and west. The idol with lot of embossed silver artwork has an interesting feature.
